Ted P.: SGA was entirely deserving of the MVP as the best scorer on the best team and a better all-round player, but Jokic was deserving as well for his astronomical numbers in points, assists, rebounds and steals on a much less talented team. I wish that they had been named co-MVPs. Give SGA his props. I hope OK City wins it all.
Paul B.: I’ve been watching the NBA for 50 plus years, seen a whole lot of games. SGA drives to the basket as much as any single player I have ever seen with the sole exception of Allen Iverson. And of course, SGA is a much better defender and shooter than AI was. I have seen him try to get fouls called, but I’ve also seen him take a lot of beating and bounce right back. I love the scorers who start stop, drive, adjust, create, and SGA is an absolutely brilliant player in my book.
Kirk V.: The MVP trophy has just been called for a foul after Shai walked past it at the ceremony. There was no actual contact but the officials awarded Shai two free throws.
Damian D.: Really three deserving candidates in SGA, Jokic, and Antetokounmpo, who put up outstanding numbers during the regular seasons. People can whatever they want about SGA’s tendency to flop, but that didn’t stop him from shooting 50% from the field for three consecutive seasons. His ability to hit the midrange shot is a lost art in today’s analytics driven NBA. He also increased his volume of three-point shooting this season while maintaining his solid percentage from that range. It allowed him to keep his 50% shooting streak intact.
