The Portland Trail Blazers ended their season with a 109-81 victory over the Los Angeles Lakers Sunday night to finish tied with the Phoenix Suns for the ninth-worst record in the NBA.
The Suns lost 109-98 at the Sacramento Kings to force the tie with Portland. Both teams went 36-46.
That means the Suns and Blazers will split the lottery odds for the ninth and 10th slots, with a coin toss used to decide which team gets the slightly higher odds.
The ninth spot has a 4.5% chance of securing the top pick in June’s NBA draft and a 20.3% chance of jumping into the top four. The 10th spot has a 3% shot at landing the No. 1 pick and a 13.9% chance of picking within the top four.
Following the coin toss, which will take place this week, the team at nine will have a 3.8% chance at No. 1 and a 17.3% chance at picking in the top four. The team at 10 will have a 3.7% chance at jumping to No. 1 and a 16.9% chance at selecting in the top four.
The NBA draft lottery will be held May 12 in Chicago, Illinois.
Other lottery teams participating in coin tosses for lottery slots will be Dallas (39-43) and Chicago (39-43), tied for No. 12.
