NORTH CANTON, Ohio (WOIO) – Walsh University in North Canton called on its community Thursday to ask for prayers for a former student athlete.
Kavan Markwood, who played football at Walsh in 2022, has been identified as the man who fell during Wednesday night’s game between the Pittsburgh Pirates and Chicago Cubs.

As of Thursday, Markwood remained in critical condition due to injuries sustained in a fall from the 21-foot-high Clemente Wall in right field at PNC Park.

“Lord, please surround him with your healing presence to restore his body and spirit,” Walsh University said in a statement.
Markwood, a Pennsylvania native, moved on to Wheeling University in 2023 as a redshirt freshman.
In a statement to the Associated Press, Markwood’s former school district described him as someone “best known for his resilience, strength and kindness. He is a friend to all — someone who lifts others up and faces challenges with courage and grace.”
