What can the Boston Celtics hope to get back in a Jrue Holiday trade? The Celtics are widely expected to try to offload salary before the 2026 NBA trade deadline as they stare down the collective bargaining agreement (CBA)’s dreaded second apron penalties triggered by Boston’s historic payroll and tax bill.
And as one of the Celtics biggest contracts — and oldest players — Holiday has been a name many analysts, and, increasingly, trade rumors, have suggested as a player who might be dealt away for a different player or two making less money. But in a cap environment that has little space around the league to absorb such salary, Boston might not get the sort of value they hope to. In light of all the factors at work, can the Celtics get cheaper without getting significantly worse by trading away Holiday?
