A sarcastic grin flashed across Ja Morant’s face when he was asked about his reaction to the NBA’s decision to fine him $75,000 after multiple gun gestures. Then, he paused.
“You really want to know?” the Memphis Grizzlies start point guard said Thursday. “I wasn’t surprised. Just was showing people what’s pretty much been evident for the last two years.”
Over the last two years, Morant has received multiple suspensions from the NBA related to conduct detrimental to the league after appearing to brandish handguns in two separate Instagram Live videos.
Morant was fined on April 4 after multiple gun gestures during his 3-point celebrations against the Miami Heat. He was warned a day earlier by the NBA.
The NBA’s decision led to Morant changing his 3-point celebration to one in which he mimics throwing a grenade. That’s the celebration fans can get used to seeing for the time being.
“That’s my celebration now until somebody else got a problem with it, and I’ll find another one,” Morant said.
