LOS ANGELES — Gerrit Cole was sitting at his locker this week at Angel Stadium, talking about the Yankees’ emerging rotation piece when Will Warren walked by.

Suddenly, class was in session.

Cole put Warren on the spot and quizzed him on his location ERA — a metric that essentially evaluates how successfully a pitcher executes hitting his spots — over the past month. Warren looked stumped, tried unsuccessfully to go look at his phone for the answer — Cole put a stop to that — and then guessed it might be in the fours.

The injured ace informed the young right-hander he was wrong because it was in the threes, down a full two runs since the last time they talked about it last month.
