CLEVELAND, Ohio. – Will Wilson, the No. 15 overall pick by the Los Angeles Angels in the 2019 MLB Draft, has been called up to the big leagues by the Cleveland Guardians Tuesday night, the organization announced.
Following the 2019 draft, Wilson was traded from the Angels to the San Francisco Giants. The Guardians selected Wilson from the Giants’ Double-A roster in 2024 out of the Rule-5 Draft.
Wilson becomes the fourth active Wolfpack player in the Majors this season, joining fellow first-round draft picks Carlos Rodon (Yankees), Trea Turner (Phillies), and Patrick Bailey (Giants). Wilson becomes the 21st Pack player to be coached by Elliott Avent to reach the top level in baseball.
For the Columbus Clippers in Triple-A, Wilson was batting .324 with 22 hits, six home runs, and 18 runs batted in. He earned two Player of the Week honors this season and was tied for most home runs in the minors in just 68 at-bats.
In his final season at NC State, Wilson led the team with a .335 batting average, 20 doubles, 16 home runs, and a .661 slugging percentage, and finished eighth all-time in career doubles (57) and homers (39) and ninth in total bases (409).
Wilson collected numerous postseason awards while at NC State, as he was named NC State’s first-ever ACC Defensive Player of the Year and an All-ACC First Team Selection and Second Team All-American by Collegiate Baseball. Additionally, he was recently tabbed one of five finalists for the Brooks Wallace Award, which is given to the nation’s best college shortstop.
He also collected All-ACC and All-America honors in his first two seasons with the Pack. He was a Dick Howser Trophy semifinalist, which is awarded to the nation’s best college baseball player, in 2018.
The Kings Mountain, N.C. native graduated in 2019 with a degree in business administration.
